COACHING

The coaching process is built on positive reinforcement. The cascaded coaching process gives managers once and twice removed an opportunity to observe how effective each level of leadership is, in identifying and articulating attributes subordinate leaders are doing well and those they may be able to do even better if…..  It has been found that a five to one ratio (i.e. positive reinforcement of five effective behaviours before discussing one thing that may be able to be done even better) is the most productive ratio for adult learning.

We advocate working on critical few behaviours, before moving on (i.e. We limit improvement to one or two critical behaviours until these are perfected or acknowledged as not achievable, which may trigger a move to a role better suited to the existing skill set).

It may sound counterintuitive to limit behavioural improvement to one or two items at any one point in time, however, results have demonstrated people are far more likely to succeed and be motivated, when focused on the critical few than the important many.  The prioritisation of critical few behaviours can be discussed, understood and altered, if necessary, across the leadership team.

The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.
